We offer a comprehensive range of first aid, resuscitation and defibrillation courses.

All of our courses are delivered by qualified trainers whom themselves have many years experience and come from a variety of professional backgrounds.

We are accredited to run courses by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and are members of the Association of First Aiders.

First Aid

First Aid at Work (initial course)

Course Objective training session attending to headFor participants to develop the skills necessary to become a competent and confident first aider in the work place
Aimed At Any member of staff who is required to become a qualified first aider in the workplace
Content
  • understanding the role of the first aider including:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
    • use of available equipment
  • assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • choking
  • wounds and bleeding
  • shock
  • injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  • chest injuries
  • burns and scalds
  • eye injuries
  • poisoning
  • anaphylactic shock
  • major illnesses including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
  • minor injuries (small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns, scalds and splinters.

First Aid at Work (re-qualification)

Course Objective sling being put onFor participants to update and their skills and requalify as a first aider in the workplace.
Aimed At Those who have previously attended and successfully completed the initial first aid at work course or already hold a re-qualification certificate.

You must be in possession of a valid First Aid at Work certificate in order to participate on this course.
 
Content Training will cover the topics of the full First Aid at Work course in sufficient detail to ensure that participants are competent to retain their First Aid at Work certificate.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Course Objective sling being put onTo develop a number of basic, general first aid skills leading to participants being awarded the ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ certificate, valid for three years.
Aimed At Staff working in low hazard working environments such as offices, shops and small industrial units who need to hold the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
Content
  • Understanding the role of the first aider including:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
    • use of available equipment
  • assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • choking
  • wounds and bleeding
  • shock
  • minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)

First Aid at Work annual refresher

Course Objective sling being put onHSE strongly recommends that first aiders undertake annual refresher training in order to help maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to first aid procedures
Aimed At All first aiders who hold a current First Aid at Work or emergency First Aid at Work certificate

Paedeatric (Child) First Aid

Paediatric First Aid (12 hours)

Course Objective bandage being put on armTo equip participants with a comprehensive range of skills to enable them to respond calmly and confidently in the event of a child becoming unwell or injuring themselves.
Aimed At Staff working with children who need to be qualified and meet the requirements of OFSTED/Early Years Foundation Stage requirements or those with an interest in paediatric first aid.
Content
  • understand the role of the first aider including:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
    • use of available equipment
  • appropriate consents
  • planning for, and dealing with, first aid emergencies involving babies and children
  • management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation for babies and children
  • shock,
  • anaphylactic shock
  • electric shock
  • wounds and bleeding
  • burns and scalds
  • choking
  • suspected fractures
  • head, neck and back injuries
  • poisoning
  • objects in the eyes, ears and nose
  • eye injuries
  • bites and stings
  • extremes of temperature
  • febrile convulsions
recognising and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of babies and children with chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia, meningitis and diabetes
Duration 12 hours.

First Aid for Infants and Children

Course Objective 2 children playingTo develop a number of basic, general first aid skills relevant to infants and children leading to participants being awarded a ‘First Aid for Infants and Children’ certificate, valid for three years.
Aimed At Staff, such as teachers, teaching assistants, school meal supervisors, learning support workers and nursery staff, where first aid may need to be administered to infants or children.

This course would be suitable for the above organisations where the OFSTED/Early Years Foundation Stage requirements have been met but additional staff are required to have training.

This course can be bespoke to the customer’s individual requirements.

  • understand the role of the first aider including:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
    • use of available equipment
  • what to do in an emergency/summoning help
  • management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
  • cardiopulmonary for infants, children and adults
  • choking

  • severe bleeding
  • shock
  • broken bones, strains and sprains
  • head injuries
  • ssthma
  • allergic reactions
  • epilepsy
  • burns

Paediatric (Outdoor) First Aid (16 hours)

Course Objective 2 children playingTo equip participants with a comprehensive range of skills to enable them to respond calmly and confidently in the event of a child becoming unwell or injuring themselves and the factors that need to be considered if this occurs in the outdoors environment.
Aimed At Recommended for those working with children, such as Forest schools, who need to meet OFSTED Early Years Foundation Stage requirements and regularly take children into the outdoor environment.

This course is based on the 12 hour childcare course but includes additional training staff and the use of practical, outdoor scenarios designed to reflect the type of situations that may occur.

  • understand the role of the first aider including:
    • the importance of preventing cross infection
    • the need for recording incidents and actions
    • use of available equipment
  • planning for, and dealing with, first aid emergencies involving babies and children in the outdoor environment
  • management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation of babies and children
  • choking
  • minor cuts, bites, stings, bleeding and shock
  • anaphylactic shock
  • broken bones, strains and sprains
  • head, neck and back injuries
  • burns and scalds
  • poisoning
  • burns
  • effects of extreme heat and cold including febrile convulsions
  • contamination and injury to the eyes and foreign objects in the ears and nose
  • other medical conditions including epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, meningitis and sickle cell anaemia.
Outcome Participants will develop a number of basic first aid skills relevant to working with children and will be awarded an ‘Paediatric (Outdoor) First Aid’ certificate, valid for 3 years.
Duration 16 hours (training contact time)

Wilderness First Aid

Aimed At Staff and members of the public who love the outdoors and have an interest in the practical application of first aid when an ambulance may not be around the next corner!
Content Variable but including realistic practical scenarios using trained casualties, resuscitation, bleeding, unconsciousness and choking. Lots of hands on, improvisation and adaptations necessary for the outdoors

Oxygen Administration

Course Objective To be able to competently and confidently administer Oxygen
Aimed At Staff working in environments where oxygen is available, necessary and may be required

  • the safe administration of oxygen to a casualty
  • the contraindications of oxygen administration
  • the safe storage and handling of oxygen
This course also includes practical scenarios involving the use of oxygen
