First Aid Training

We offer a comprehensive range of first aid, resuscitation and defibrillation
courses.
All of our courses are delivered by qualified trainers whom themselves have many
years experience and come from a variety of professional backgrounds.
We are accredited to run courses by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and are
members of the Association of First Aiders.
The
emphasis on every course is to allow participants to become confident in their
skills through a range of theory and practical sessions as well as continuing
assessment and feedback from the trainer.

First Aid
First Aid at Work (initial course)
| Course Objective |
For
participants to develop the skills necessary to become a competent and confident
first aider in the work place |
| Aimed At |
Any member of staff who is required to become a
qualified first aider in the workplace |
| Content |
- understanding the role of the first aider including:
- the importance of preventing cross infection
- the need for recording incidents and actions
- use of available equipment
- assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
- cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- choking
- wounds and bleeding
- shock
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected
spinal injuries
- chest injuries
- burns and scalds
- eye injuries
- poisoning
- anaphylactic shock
- major illnesses including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
- minor injuries (small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns, scalds and splinters.

First Aid at Work (re-qualification)
| Course Objective |
For
participants to update and their skills and requalify as a first aider in the
workplace. |
| Aimed At |
Those who have previously attended and successfully
completed the initial first aid at work course or already hold a
re-qualification certificate.
You must be in possession of a valid First Aid at Work certificate in order to
participate on this course.

Training will cover the topics of the full First Aid
at Work course in sufficient detail to ensure that participants are competent to
retain their First Aid at Work certificate. |

Emergency First Aid at Work
| Course Objective |
To
develop a number of basic, general first aid skills leading to participants
being awarded the ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ certificate, valid for three
years. |
| Aimed At |
Staff working in low hazard working environments such
as offices, shops and small industrial units who need to hold the Emergency
First Aid at Work qualification. |

- assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely,
promptly and effectively in an emergency

First Aid at Work annual refresher

HSE
strongly recommends that first aiders undertake annual refresher training in
order to help maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes
to first aid procedures |

Paedeatric (Child) First Aid
Paediatric First Aid (12 hours)
| Course Objective |
To
equip participants with a comprehensive range of skills to enable them to
respond calmly and confidently in the event of a child becoming unwell or
injuring themselves. |
| Aimed At |
Staff working with children who need to be qualified
and meet the requirements of OFSTED/Early Years Foundation Stage requirements or
those with an interest in paediatric first aid. |
| Content |
- understand the role of the first aider including:
- the importance of preventing cross infection
- the need for recording incidents and actions
- use of available equipment
- appropriate consents
- planning for, and dealing with, first aid emergencies involving babies and children
- management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
- cardiopulmonary resuscitation for babies and children
- shock,
- anaphylactic shock
- electric shock
- wounds and bleeding
- burns and scalds
- choking
- suspected fractures
- head, neck and back injuries
- poisoning
- objects in the eyes, ears and nose
- eye injuries
- bites and stings
- extremes of temperature
- febrile convulsions
recognising and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of babies
and children with chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma,
sickle cell anaemia, meningitis and diabetes |

First Aid for Infants and Children
| Course Objective |
To
develop a number of basic, general first aid skills relevant to infants and
children leading to participants being awarded a ‘First Aid for Infants and
Children’ certificate, valid for three years. |
| Aimed At |
Staff, such as teachers, teaching assistants, school
meal supervisors, learning support workers and nursery staff, where first aid
may need to be administered to infants or children.
This course would be suitable for the above organisations where the OFSTED/Early
Years Foundation Stage requirements have been met but additional staff are
required to have training.
This course can be bespoke to the customer’s individual requirements. |

- what to do in an emergency/summoning help
- management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)
- cardiopulmonary for infants, children and adults

Paediatric (Outdoor) First Aid (16 hours)
| Course Objective |
To
equip participants with a comprehensive range of skills to enable them to
respond calmly and confidently in the event of a child becoming unwell or
injuring themselves and the factors that need to be considered if this occurs in
the outdoors environment. |
| Aimed At |
Recommended for those working with children, such as
Forest schools, who need to meet OFSTED Early Years Foundation Stage
requirements and regularly take children into the outdoor environment.
This course is based on the 12 hour childcare course but includes additional
training staff and the use of practical, outdoor scenarios designed to reflect
the type of situations that may occur. |

- the need for recording incidents and actions
- use of available equipment
- planning for, and dealing with, first aid emergencies involving babies and children in the outdoor environment
- management of an unconscious casualty (including seizures)

- minor cuts, bites, stings, bleeding and shock
- anaphylactic shock
- broken bones, strains and sprains
- head, neck and back injuries
- burns and scalds
- poisoning

- effects of extreme heat and cold including febrile convulsions
- contamination and injury to the eyes and foreign objects in the ears and nose
- other medical conditions including epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, meningitis and sickle cell anaemia.

skills relevant to working with children and will be awarded an ‘Paediatric
(Outdoor) First Aid’ certificate, valid for 3 years. |
