Manual Handling Courses
We offer a number of varied and different moving and handling courses, many of
which reflect the individual needs of customers, or are developed over a number
of years on a rolling programme. These courses are broadly divided into 3 areas:

We regularly provide courses for Primary Care Trust’s, charities, hospitals and private residential care and nursing homes. In addition we run a monthly people handling trainer’s course. If you have a particular need or interest please contact us. We regularly work with staff teams who are:

- Working in special needs schools
- Working with older people
Our inanimate object handling courses are suitable for any members of staff
working in areas such as retailing, warehousing, distribution, IT, Construction

Manual and Inanimate Object Handling
Inanimate Object Handling
| Course Objective |
This course is designed to provide an overview of good basic practice and makes
staff aware of the risks associated with manual handing. |

| Content | Legislation, risk assessment, moving inanimate objects, spinal awareness, principles of safe moving and handling, common causes of back pain |

Foundation level manual handling
| Course Objective |
This
course is designed to provide an overview of the common techniques care and
nursing staff are required to use in the workplace and gives plenty of
opportunity to practice. |

| Aimed At | Members of staff working within health and social care who are required to manually handle client/patients during the course of their work. |
| Content | Legislation, risk assessment, spinal awareness, principles of safe moving and handling, common causes of back pain, practical techniques for moving. |

Manual Handling Refresher Course
| Course Objective |
For
participants to update on current practice and problem solve on typical manual
handling challenges. |

| Aimed At | This course is designed as an update/refresher for
members of staff who have previously undertaken manual handling training. Individual organisations can specify the content of each course, alternatively a rolling programme that can be followed. |
| Content | Our 2004/5 programme includes information on human rights, an update on current techniques, new equipment and an accident investigation scenario. |
| Duration | 2/3 hours |
West of England Moving and Handling Foundation Course for Appointed Key Trainers

This course is run in partnership
with Angelbeck training.It is ideal for those working within a hospital, residential or community setting where client/patient handling is part of the daily routine. |
Course Objective | This course provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills enabling participants to teach foundation level manual handling to others upon successful completion. |

| Aimed At | Individuals with a minimum of two years care/nursing
experience within their particular field prior to attending this course. Attendees should have some experience of teaching and training and must previously have undertaken manual handling training. |
| Content | Bio-mechanics and back care, ergonomics, developing training programmes, legislation, risk assessment, inanimate object handling, client handling techniques, presentations, project work, hoisting and other mechanical aids. |

West of England Foundation Level Paediatric Manual Handling Training Course

course is run in partnership with Angelbeck training. It is idea for those working within a hospital, residential or community setting where the moving and handling of children is part of the daily routine. |
Course Objective | This course provides the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills enabling participants to teach foundation level manual handling to others upon successful completion. |

experience including, therapists, care staff, nurses, home managers working with
children and who want to develop the skills necessary to become paediatric
moving and handling trainers. Attendees should have some experience of teaching and training and must previously have undertaken manual handling training. |
| Content | Bio-mechanics and back care, ergonomics, developing training programmes, legislation and risk assessment, inanimate object handling, paediatric handling techniques, presentations, project work, hoisting and the use of other mechanical aids. |
