The following is a selection of some of our more general health and safety
courses. The list is not definitive but provides an overview of the typical
content of our training programmes
Our one day training programmes can be accredited through a national
organisation such as the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health or the
Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, alternatively a certificate of
attendance issued locally can also usually be awarded.
We aim to make this side of health and safety both relevant and interesting and
use case studies, real life and experience to create our courses.

Health and Safety
COSHH and Infection Control
| Course Objective |
To
achieve a basic understanding of the requirement of COSHH and infection control. |
| Aimed At |
This particular course is ideally suited to those
staff working within the health and social care sectors where a basic
understanding of the requirement of COSHH and infection control is necessary. |

Good general practice with regard to infection control
and the management and use of hazardous substances within the care setting. |

Risk Assessment (care sector)
| Course Objective |
To
achieve the required basic level of Risk Assessment Skills. |
| Aimed At |
All members of staff working with the residential care
and nursing home sector. |
| Content |
Variable depending on the particular needs of each
individual home. This course is generally related to TOPPS and includes health
and safety, risk assessment, COSHH, infection control and legislation. |

Basic Health and Safety Certificate
| Course Objective |
To
achieve the required knowledge to obtain the Basic Health and Safety
Certificate. |
| Aimed At |
This course is suitable for all members of staff who
require a basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace. The day
consists of trainer lead presentations, case study, group work and general
question and answer sessions. |

Health and safety at work, law, preventing accidents
and ill health, risk assessment, first aid at work, protective equipment,
workplace health, safety and welfare, work equipment, electricity, fire
prevention, occupational health, hazardous substances, ergonomics and

Asbestos Awareness Training
| Course Objective |
The Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable
candidates to understand the health and safety requirements placed on employers
and employees, Identify hazards, risks and the main causes of harm to workers.
Understand the importance of following safe systems of work, procedures, rules
and the health safety and welfare provisions in the workplace. |
| Aimed At |
This course is aimed at anyone in a trade or industry
who may come into asbestos during their work and specifically, builders,
plumbers, carpenters, painters and decorators, telecom engineers, alarm
installers, maintenance staff, engineers and anyone who disturbs the fabric of a
building. |

The Properties of asbestos and effects on health,
types, uses and risks of asbestos containing materials in buildings and plant,
general emergency procedures for accidental release of asbestos dust, how to
avoid the risk of asbestos. |

This course can be delivered at a time convenient to
you over half a day at your premises, or at one of our Bristol training venues. |

Safety Harness & Lanyard Training
| Course Objective |
The aim of this course is to give attendees an understanding of the different
types of harness and lanyards, their safe selection, use and inspection. It also
runs through all the relevant health & safety laws including the work at height
regulations 2005. |

This course is aimed at anyone that uses safety
harnesses and lanyards in any type of environment. |
| Content |
An overview of all relevant Health & Safety laws and
regulations including the work at height regulations, responsibilities of
employees and their employers under these laws and regulations, the different
types and uses of harnesses and lanyards, addressing which ones to use in
different situations, the safe inspection of the equipment what to look for, how
to use it and whose responsibility it is you use it.
The correct methods of wearing different harnesses and working safely with both
harness and lanyard, devising a safe rescue plan, the correct way to store
harnesses and lanyards, practical exercises, knowledge testing, questions and
review. |

Scaffold Inspection
| Course Objective |
This course is designed to give delegates an understanding of the relevant
regulations and legislation involved with all aspects of scaffold inspection. |
| Aimed At |
This course is aimed at those who have the
responsibility of carrying out weekly inspections of scaffolding. |
| Content |
An overview of all relevant Health & Safety Laws and
Regulations including The Work at Height 2005 Regulations, duties of the
employer and employee, product standards, components, safe use of the equipment,
conducting a risk assessment in the right way, erect and dismantle of
scaffolding, the importance of keeping your equipment in good order with regular
maintenance. |

Working at Height
| Course Objective |
This course is designed to give delegates an understanding and appreciation of
the work at height regulations 2005. The course shows delegates how to plan any
work at height, including equipment selection and how to put measures into place
to prevent falls. |

An overview of all relevant Health & Safety Laws and
regulations, responsibilities of employees and their employers, the safe
inspection and use of the equipment, what to look for and how to look for it,

correct personal protective equipment (PPE), knowledge testing, questions and

Ladders and Steps
| Course Objective |
This course is designed for all those who use ladders and steps in the
workplace. Focussing on the Work at Height Regulations 2005, as well as the safe
use, maintenance and inspection of such access equipment. |

ladders and steps, and their employers. |
| Content |
All relevant Health & Safety Laws and regulations,
responsibilities of employees and their employers, the safe inspection of
equipment, conducting a risk assessment in the correct way, how to use the
equipment safely , the correct storing of equipment, the importance of keeping
your equipment in good order with regular maintenance, the correct personal
protective equipment (PPE), practical exercises, questions and review. |

PASMA Mobile Aluminium Access Towers
| Course Objective |
This course teaches delegates how to safely erect, move, inspect, dismantle,
alter and use mobile access towers. The PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers
and Manufacturers Association) is the most widely recognised qualification for
use of all mobile towers. It is recognised by the health & safety executive and
satisfies the “provision and use of work equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER)” and
the “Work at Height Regulations 2005” |
| Aimed At |
This course is essential for all users of both alloy
and fibreglass mobile access towers that are approved to BS EN 1004:2004. |
| Content |
Introduction to mobile access towers, overview of
relevant Health & Safety Laws and regulations including the Work at Height
Regulations 2005, the safe inspection of tower components, what to look for and
how to look for it and the PASMA inspection tag, the safe erection (3T method
and advanced guard rail) dismantling, moving, altering and the use of a mobile
tower, tower stability and Tying in, Hazards and risks associated with towers,
keeping yourself properly protected including the correct personal protective
equipment, your responsibilities when using a tower, practical test including
assessment, multiple choice test, questions and review. |

Abrasive Wheels
| Course Objective |
This course is designed to give attendees an appreciation of abrasive wheel
safety as well as an understanding of sound mounting techniques. This course
covers angle grinders (With grinders or cutting wheels), cut off saws and bench
top cut off saws. |

This course is aimed at all operators who use abrasive
wheels and their employers. |
| Content |
All relevant Health & Safety Laws and Regulations,
responsibilities of employees and their employers, the safe inspection of the
equipment what to look for and how to look for it, being aware of Hand Arm
vibration and how to reduce the risks, conducting a risk assessment in the
correct way, how to operate the equipment safely, the correct storing of
equipment, the importance of keeping your equipment in good order with regular
maintenance, keeping yourself properly protected including the correct personal
protective equipment (PPE), practical exercises, knowledge testing, questions
and review |

IPAF Scissor & Boom Lift Training
| Course Objective |
This course teaches those who operate both types of MEWPS (Mobile elevated work
platforms) it also covers skills such as the selection and pre inspection of the
equipment. The IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification is
the official and internationally recognised qualification for such machinery. It
is recognised by the Health & Safety Executive and satisfies the “provision and
Use of Work and Equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER)” and the Work at Height
Regulations 2005” |
| Aimed At |
This course is essential for all users of Scissor and
Boom Lifts. (Cherry Pickers) Delegates must be 16 and over, in order to pass the
course each delegate will be assessed by a multiple choice question paper for
which the pass mark is 80%. This must be passed in order to continue with the
practical exercise for which the pass mark is 75% |

including the work at height regulations 2005, responsibilities of employees and
their employers, Introduction to the use of MEWPS, safe pre use checks and
inspection of the equipment what to look for and how to look for it, how to
start and stop the machine, overhead obstructions and ground conditions, written
test paper, practical instruction on the machinery, the importance of keeping
your equipment in good order with regular maintenance, keeping yourself properly
protected including the correct personal protective equipment (PPE), practical
exercises, knowledge testing, questions, and review |
