Our first free CPR training event was hosted at Lexus Bristol on Thursday 28th February – over 40 people attended across the two, 45 minute sessions and all left knowing how to perform CPR, which may one day help save a life.

The drive behind hosting these complimentary events is to help raise the awareness of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) amongst the people of Bristol.  Shockingly, 77% of people either don’t know how to administer CPR or they are unsure of how to do it – the chance of survival after a cardiac arrest outside of hospital is between 5%-10%.

If you suffer a cardiac arrest, the person next or nearest to you right now has the best possible chance of saving your life – we’d like to improve those odds for the people who live in our city.

Photography by Studiowise PhotoAs well as the training, GWAAC Critical Care Paramedic Pete Sadler was in attendance with one the GWAAC’s Rapid Response Vehicles – he spoke about how important these basic skills can be as without early care at the time of an incident, the Critical Care Paramedics, the Doctors, Nurses and all of the other personnel who care for cardiac arrest victims don’t get to do their job.

Lexus Bristol employees David Bowden and Nigel Knapp know first-hand the importance of learning CPR as they helped save the life of a customer visiting their dealership.  David had previously learned the necessary skills after attending a training course at Acorn Health and Safety – since then David has assisted with two cardiac arrests, one child birth, a stroke and a choking and we’re pleased to say that everyone involved was dealt with safely and went on to make full recoveries.

Laura Breen from ‘Trunki’, one of the delegates at the event said; “The CPR workshop was really good; it’s an invaluable skill and really was a very enjoyable event.”

The next event is planned for the summer and will remain free to attend – anyone wishing to pre-book for our next event can register their email address here and we’ll send more information on the date and times nearer the event.
