The Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) are set of regulations created under the Health and Safety at Work act. The purpose of the regulations was to make lifting operations, and the use of lifting equipment, as safe as can be to reduce the risk of injury from lifting equipment used at work.

Lifting equipment covered under LOLER includes:
  • Cranes.
  • Workplace passenger and goods lifts.
  • Construction hoists.
  • Dumb waiters.
  • Scissor lifts.
  • Vehicle tail lifts.
  • Telehandlers and industrial lift trucks.
  • Bath hoists.

If your business owns or operates lifting equipment in any capacity, it must comply with these regulations. The new guidance is for dutyholders and inspectors and also includes Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) by carrying out thorough examinations and testing of lifting and pressure equipment during the coronavirus outbreak.
