Training Focus – First Aid at Work

As many of you will already know Acorn Health and Safety have considerable expertise in First Aid and provide a fantastic portfolio of First Aid training courses.

We are extremely passionate about First Aid and believe that no matter who you are and what you do, the ability to save somebody else’s life or help them in their time of need is pretty special.

 

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work.

What is ‘adequate and appropriate’ will depend on the circumstances in the workplace, this includes to what level training is required for first-aiders.

The employer should carry out a ‘First Aids Needs Assessment’ to determine what is appropriate for their individual business, taking into account;

• the workplace premises (single unit or spread out over a large area)
• the workforce i.e. how many
• the hazards and risk of injury occurring

As a minimum, for low risk environments such as shops and offices with fewer than twenty-five employees, you must have:

• a suitably stocked first-aid kit
• an appointed person to take charge of first-aid arrangements;
• information for all employees giving details of first-aid arrangements
