Training Focus: Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (Early Years Foundation Stage EYFS Framework)

Our Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (PFA) is aimed at registered childminders, nursery, teaching staff and those working within a childcare setting who need to meet OFSTED requirements, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old and was revised on 3 March 2017 and came into force on 3 April 2017. All infants, juniors and primary schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools and nurseries.

The EYFS also includes the Paediatric First Aid (PFA) training requirements that all newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce with a level 2 or 3 qualification must also have. In summary, either a full or emergency PFA certificate within 3 months of starting work and the childcare provider is responsible for selecting a competent training provider to deliver their PFA training which includes those operating under a voluntary accreditation scheme.

Our 2 day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) course is accredited by Qualsafe Awards, one of the country’s leading Awarding Organisations in first aid.

This course is now available with 1 day classroom, 1 day online and is being live streamed using ‘Zoom‘. It’s the same great training achieving high levels of interaction and is still being delivered by a knowledgeable and experienced trainer. Where required all course materials are provided in advance of training, all you need is access to the internet and a suitable device (computer, laptop, I-pad or similar) to join in.

Over a 2 day period, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including: assessing an emergency situation, dealing with an unresponsive infant or child, CPR, choking, meningitis, head and spinal injuries, anaphylaxis, asthma and more which meets the criteria for effective PFA training as defined in EYFS.

Owing to the practical nature of this course a basis level of general fitness is required.  Delegates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline.  Should you have any questions relating to the accessibility of this course please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We also offer a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course which incorporates the Level 3 Paediatric First Aid along with a number of practical scenarios set outside allowing delegates the opportunity to practice first aid in a different environment and is aimed at those working with children in an outdoor setting or who are working towards their forest school leader award.

IMPORTANT COURSE INFORMATION: Please ensure you bring photo ID with you and present to your trainer at the beginning of the course. This is a requirement of Qualsafe (the course accreditation) and certificates cannot be provided without it. If English is your second language you are permitted to bring and use a hard copy bilingual dictionary during the course. Test papers are only available in English however, you can use your bilingual dictionary to help translate words. These can also be used in combination with a full verbally spoken multiple choice question assessment.

From training 120 staff in bubbles on a school inset day to paediatric first aid training for childminders, pre-schools and nurseries we can help you meet the requirements of EYFS 2017.

You don’t have to take our word for how well we deliver paediatric first aid, take a look at our testimonials page where you will find great reviews, such as:

I attended the Paediatric Level 3 First Aid course on 27 June and 4th July with Sarah Howarth. Firstly, can I say what a fantastic course it was. I really enjoyed it and thought Sarah was a brilliant trainer and obviously very passionate about first aid. I feel really confident walking away from my time with her and although I hope I don’t need to use what I learnt, I love that I feel I could.”

“Just wanted to say ‘thank you’ for organising this training (Level 2 Paediatric First Aid). It went really well and everyone enjoyed the course. Sarah was great, made it fun and left everyone feeling very confident in their abilities to use what they have learnt. The socially distancing worked really well and everyone felt safe.”
