Working with Asbestos

Employers must not carry out any work in demolition, maintenance, or any other work which exposes, or is liable to expose, employees or others to asbestos.

“Paul was very adaptable, covering what was most relevant to us. The course (First Aid for Infants and Children) was all helpful. I will now be able to respond to any incidents while on residentials with children. 10/10″

Why do our customers choose us?

Acorn Health and Safety Construction Building Management and Trades ItemsOur consultants specialising in construction, building management and trades sectors are qualified, knowledgeable professional staff who regularly advise businesses of the steps they should take regarding asbestos at all stages of a project.

Initially we advise all customers working in non-domestic premises (and for common areas of domestic premises) to contact the duty holder to obtain an assessment of asbestos risk for the premises; this is commonly known as an ‘asbestos register’. If there is any doubt regarding the presence of asbestos, then legislation has specific requirements in place.

Acorn Health & Safety is a leading provider of health and safety training and consultancy in the South West.  Our trainers and consultants come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds and have considerable, hands on practical experience which is reflected in our grounded, pragmatic approach.

Customers come from an equally diverse range of organisations and businesses but choose Acorn because we’ll keep you on the right side of the law, whilst recognising that health and safety needs to compliment your day to day business activities.

How do we support construction, building maintenance and trades working with asbestos?

Failing to prevent exposure to airborne asbestos fibres can have significant financial and legal implications for employers, as well as potentially causing people to suffer from significant ill health. We offer impartial professional advice and support, to ensure that your risk assessments, safe systems of working, method statements and management procedures are effective.

We can provide qualified guidance, in person, to enable you to interpret asbestos survey and register documents and to understand how to manage work safely and legally where asbestos is present.

Where employees are required to wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE) during the course of their work we can provide face fit testing for individual staff members and groups

What should you expect from Acorn Health & Safety?

We will advise you on safe working in premises that contain asbestos and, where required, arrange for independent UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) consultancy engagement that specialise in surveying and analysis of asbestos in bulk materials.

You will receive professional guidance on interpreting the contents and detail of a management, or refurbishment and demolition survey, and how to use the information and best practice guidance to ensure the safety of your employees and others, at work, so far as is reasonably practicable.

We will assign you a dedicated and competent health and safety professional who will gain an understanding of your needs and be on hand to provide any help, advice or comment you need.

Any documentation produced will either be uploaded to our cloud based storage system provided electronically, or as a hard copy in the required format.  Following any piece of consultancy work we are available by phone or on e-mail, so you can contact us easily, if you need our assistance or further advice.
