Medication Policy

With regular changes in legislation and conflicting messages regarding the administration of medicines to clients in a health and social care setting we will ensure you medication policy and procedures are legally compliant and fit for purpose.

“I find training is normally boring. Half day is difficult let alone 3 days and yet the trainer somehow made it continuously fun and enjoyable aswell as informative”

DH, Frome YMCA

“Our trainer was really helpful and interesting. He answered our questions really well and guided us when we needed it. I feel much more up to date on my First Aid.”

GP, Glastonbury YMCA

“The trainer was so lovely. Very articulate. Felt safe asking him silly questions. He had a lot of stories to tell which helped explain and me remember First Aid. His safeguarding was spot on too. 10/10”

Why do our customers choose us?

Acorn Health and Safety - Health and Social CareAcorn Health & Safety works extensively in the health and social care sector and our registered nurses have excellent working knowledge of all current legislative requirements and guidance with regard to medication.

As more and more clients are cared for in the community  with a variety of healthcare needs the Human Medicines Regulation 2014, Care Standards and Care Quality Commission (CQC) guidance has been produced to support the safe and effective administration of medicines within the health and social care setting.

The emphasis is always on safety, ensuring that the client receives the right medication at the right time, in the right dose whilst at the same time ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice.

Acorn Health & Safety is a leading provider of health and safety training and consultancy in the South West.  Our trainers and consultants come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds and have considerable, hands on practical experience which is reflected in our grounded, pragmatic approach.

Customers come from an equally diverse range of organisations and businesses but choose Acorn because we’ll keep you on the right side of the law, whilst recognising that health and safety needs to compliment your day to day business activities.

How do we support health and social care providers with their medication policy?

One of our registered nurses will liaise with relevant persons to gain an understanding of an organisations needs and respond to any concerns, questions or observations that an employer might have.

The existing medication policy will be reviewed and where required further developed to ensure that it meets statutory requirements and complies with published guidance.  A review of this nature will include:

  • Legal requirements for the safe handling and storage of medicines
  • Consent and capacity
  • Recording the administration of medicines (MARS)
  • Medication errors
  • Staff training needs
  • Managing unsafe and poor practice such as secondary administration

What should you expect from Acorn Health & Safety?

Health and Social Care customers will receive guidance on, or an updated medication policy that is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the organisation, its staff team and clients.  In addition, a range of documents for recording consent and medicines administration record sheets (MARS) will also be provided if required.

We will assign you a dedicated and competent healthcare professional, a registered nurse specialising in this area.  They will gain an understanding of your needs and be on hand to provide any help, advice or comment you need.

Any documentation produced will either be uploaded to our cloud based storage system provided electronically, or as a hard copy in the required format.  Following any piece of consultancy work we are available by phone or on e-mail, so you can contact us easily, if you need our assistance or further advice.
