Acorn Health and Safety e learning online trainingWe recognise that e-learning is a cost-effective training method and is becoming an increasingly important part of many organisations training and development activities which is why we now offer a selection of e-learning courses to complement the classroom-based learning we offer on our open courses.

We have consciously chosen a provider whose courses are externally accredited by CPD and we like the fact that the training is presented using a blended approach.

How do we approach Autism Awareness e-learning training?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people around them.

This course will provide you with an understanding of what autism is and how it affects a child's daily life. It will touch on what factors contribute towards a child developing autism as well as some of the typical behaviours associated with it and how you can provide effective support for those with the condition. It also discusses what happens during the diagnosis process, some of the intervention methods that can help manage the condition and suggests some simple adaptations you can make to improve a child with autism's day to day life.

People working in adult and child care environments may find this course useful. Those working in all areas of care may come into contact with people who has Autistic Spectrum Disorders ASD. Although the course focuses on children with autism, having an awareness of the condition and how best to provide support to someone with ASD will be of use to anyone who interacts with and cares for children and adults as part of their work.

Having a knowledge of the typical behaviours and challenges associated with ASD can equip you to identify these and act in a supportive way.

How do we approach Diabetes Awareness e-learning training?

Diabetes is a serious lifelong health condition that occurs when the amount of glucose, or sugar, in the blood is too high. If left untreated, high blood glucose levels can cause serious health complications.

Diabetes can develop in anyone at any point in their life although there are certain groups and age ranges where it is more common. There are a range of symptoms that could indicate that someone had Diabetes, these range from excessive thirst to feeling more tired than usual. It is believed that up to 26% of residential and nursing home residents have Diabetes so being able to recognise the symptoms and knowing how you can help them to manage the condition is essential.

This course is suitable to anyone who is in contact with someone with diabetes and will provide an overview of the condition, the common symptoms that might indicate someone has diabetes, methods of diagnosis, some possible treatments and common complications that can affect those with the condition.

This course has 3 modules in total and each module concludes with some relevant questions. The pass rate for these questions is 70% and the 3 modules covered are:

How do we approach Dementia Awareness e-learning training?

Dementia is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions. Dementia is a chronic progressive problem of cognition - which is failure of the brain’s functions. IT affects people at different stages of life, it affects different parts of the brain and it affects it at different speeds.
This course is intended to give you an overview of the common types and symptoms of dementia as well as going into how it can affect the brain in different ways. It also covers strategies to use with clients with dementia and dealing with challenging behaviour. The course is intended for anyone who works with or around people that may be suffering with dementia.

How do we approach Learning Disability awareness e-learning training?

Learning disabilities, however they are acquired, are lifelong. They are neurological disabilities and as such affect how an individual understands and remembers information, how they learn and communicate. People can be born with learning disabilities or they may acquire them later in life.

There are many differing types of learning difficulty and they can exhibit in many different ways and with many different characteristics.
This course will start by giving you an overview of some of the common types and causes of learning disabilities and how they affect people. It will touch on how a person centred approach to care will get the best results and look at how management must perform, and at the needs of the individual. It will also discuss overcoming the stigma attached to learning disabilities and much more.

How do we approach Emergency First Aid at Work - online annual refresher e-learning training?

What is Emergency First Aid? Well it’s exactly that, the first aid to be offered if an incident occurs. Not many of us are confronted with scenes of blood and gore in our everyday lives – so usually first aid could be as simple as sticking a plaster on a small cut.

But what if you did find yourself confronted with a more serious situation. This Emergency aid course will highlight some of the most common situations that you might come across and the actions that you can take to help.

In the most serious situations a first aider's role will be to assess the scene so that accurate information can be passed to Emergency services and then to act appropriately to try and increase the patients odds of survival.

What should you expect from Acorn Health & Safety?
