Why do our customers choose us?

Acorn Health and Safety e learning online trainingWe recognise that e-learning is a cost-effective training method and is becoming an increasingly important part of many organisations training and development activities which is why we now offer a selection of e-learning courses to complement the classroom-based learning we offer on our open courses.

We have consciously chosen a provider whose courses are externally accredited by RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and CPD and we like the fact that the training is presented using a blended approach.

Food handlers and their employers have a legal duty to manage food safety. These obligations are set out by a number of UK laws. These laws state that food handlers must make sure that food which is prepared, cooked, served or sold, is safe for human consumption. Failing to follow food safety standards can cause food to become contaminated with potentially fatal consequences.

We offer 4 e-learning food safety courses:

  • Level 1 Food Safety: Manufacturing, Catering or Retail (EL05 - EL07) - RoSPA & CPD
  • Level 2 Food Safety: Manufacturing, Catering or Retail (EL08 - EL10) - RoSPA & CPD
  • Introduction to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) Level 2 (EL35) - RoSPA & CPD
  • Allergen Awareness (EL52) - RoSPA & CPD

We’ll either grant you an individual licence, or set you up as an administrator for multiple users.  Our e-learning platform is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and therefore accessible when you or your staff team need it.  Our administration team are on hand 9-5, Monday – Friday to answer any software or licence related questions you might have.

As the delegate, you set the pace to this course and each module concludes with some relevant questions.

How do we approach Introduction to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) Level 2 e-learning training?

HACCP is an internationally recognised food safety management system that is used to identify, evaluate and control hazards which are significant for food safety and is a pro-active system. The focus is on prevention of hazards rather than relying mainly on end-product testing.

This course will start by covering some of the key terms you will need to understand before moving on to identifying critical control points and analysing some of the key hazards. It’ll show you how to determine control points and how to avoid cross-contamination in the food chain. It will also cover some of the control measures that can be taken along with how to address a problem is a critical limit is breached.

Towards the end of the course all this will be brought together by taking you step by step through the implementation of HACCP and see how the 7 principles of HACCP are integrated into the whole process.

This course has 8 modules in total and each module concludes with some relevant questions. The pass rate for these questions is 70% and the 8 modules covered are:

  • Key Definitions
  • Microbiological Hazards and Controls
  • Chemical Hazards and Controls
  • Allergens and Avoiding Cross-Contamination

How do we approach Allergen Awareness e-learning training?

Allergies occur when the body’s immune system reacts to a usually harmless substance as though it is harmful. Why this happens, isn’t clear. However, most sufferers come from families that have a history of allergies, or related problems. Every year, the number of people with allergies is increasing so having an awareness of potential allergens and why they can be harmful is becoming more important, particularly if you work in the food service industry.

This course covers general allergies, food allergies and food intolerances and explain the differences between them. It covers the 14 allergens controlled by legislation along with food additives and how they can trigger allergic reactions. It takes a detailed look at the symptoms of food allergies and takes in the wider picture discussing the current theories of why rates are increasing. It then finishes off by covering practical steps that can be taken to reduce the risk from allergens and also what steps can be taken both internally and externally to monitor the control measures. Allergic reactions can have serious consequences so knowing which substances can cause them and how to avoid cross contamination is vital.

This course is aimed at anyone working within the food industry and CPD approval means that this course can be used by those that need to prove they are continually developing themselves.

Online training is flexible, efficient and cost effective meaning the candidate can progress through the modules at their own pace and in their own time, so they can fit the training in around their work and personal life.

This course has 9 modules in total and each module concludes with some relevant questions. The pass rate for these questions is 70% and the 9 modules covered are:

  • Food Intolerance and Allergens: the Basics
  • Food Intolerances - Causes and Symptoms
  • Allergies - Causes and Symptoms
